Sutter Medical Center Castro Valley Project Team
The following staff and consultants will be blogging about the progress of the new medical center, and we’ll introduce guest bloggers to provide more information about specific elements of the project:
George Bischalaney, President & CEO of Eden Medical Center
In his 30-year career at Eden, George Bischalaney has risen through the ranks, serving as CFO of Eden, and as Administrator of Eden’s Laurel Grove Hospital. George is past president of the East Bay Hospital Council, a board member of the Hospital Council of Northern and Central California, board member and past president of the Castro Valley Chamber of Commerce, and on the Board of the Eden Hospital Health Services Corporation.
George established Eden Township Healthcare District’s Community Health Fund, a $30 million endowment that gives grants to public agencies and charities that work to improve the health of Castro Valley, Hayward and our surrounding communities. A resident of Hayward, George is active in numerous personal and professional community outreach efforts. You could say George is a fixture in our community.
Cassandra Clark, Project Communications Director
Cassandra is no stranger to the region. For nearly two decades she was the “voice” of Eden Medical Center, and its most passionate advocate. Cassandra was Eden’s Communications & Government Affairs Director, a consummate communicator whether speaking with pride about a new service, handling a crisis or working with patients and families. She is past president and current board member of the San Leandro Chamber of Commerce, active with the Davis Street Family Resource Center and an advocate for trauma prevention programs.
It was a natural segue for Cassandra to move on from her post at Eden and focus her work on the new Sutter hospital. Cassandra leads the project communications team and wears multiple hats – even a hard hat if she has to! She is involved in the vision for the new medical center, its design and regulatory approvals, community outreach and government affairs.
Digby Christian is the Senior Project Manager for Facility Planning & Development at Sutter Health, for the new Sutter Medical Center being built in Castro Valley. That means the scope, schedule and budget fall under Digby’s responsibility. He is the single point of contact for delivery of the design and construction of the new medical center and oversees all contractors for each and every aspect of the project.
Digby has been managing construction projects for many years, with the last 6 years focused exclusively on healthcare facilities. He will keep us “posted” on what he and his team members are doing to keep the project on track, on time and on budget. He is taking new, innovative approaches to add efficiencies and improve coordination among the construction teams so that ultimately the new medical center opens as planned, on schedule.
Jesús is our government affairs liaison. He brings more than 30 years of local government experience with four cities in Southern and Northern California. Prior to his retirement in 2007, Jesus was the Hayward City Manager, where he served with distinction for over 14 years. His role on the Sutter Eden Medical Center project team is to obtain the necessary land use approvals from Alameda County.
Jesus will be blogging about where we stand on state, county and municipal approval processes. A major milestone will be to win approval for the Environmental Impact Report. Jesus will let us know when we have the green light to begin construction.
